Heidi and Graeme held their Assynt House Wedding on a beautiful, sunny August day. Assynt House weddings are always a joy to photograph as the venue is absolutely gorgeous and the owners, Liz and Graeme Waugh, are just so hospitable, and do such a wonderful job of looking after the bride and groom and their guests. The view isn’t bad either!
So, I arrived as Heidi and her best friend and bridesmaid, Lynne, were getting ready with Dawn from Aspen Spa and local hairdresser Jackie. Meanwhile, Graeme and his brother Stuart, the best man, were being introduced to a few feathered guests – a small group of birds of prey who were booked for a falconry display later in the day. One of the birds, however, a beautiful little barn owl, was going to be delivering the wedding rings to Stuart, so there was a bit of a practice going on.
The ceremony was conducted by the lovely humanist Sylvia Cameron, who I’ve worked with before and after a couple of fly ins, the owl managed to land on Stuart’s arm, the rings were delivered and the ceremony was made official! I’ve never seen this at any of my weddings and it was quite fun!
Drinks in the garden followed, along with some family photographs and the bride and groom session and then it was time for a delicious dinner, after which the birds performed for the guests while the band set up for the dancing. There was a kestrel, a hawk, a barn owl and very large owl who was beautiful and amazing to watch.
Here are some of my favourite shots from the day, and congratulations to Graeme and Heidi!
