Wedding Photography | Lucy & Gareth | Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland
Every wedding I have the privilege of shooting is lovely, but now and again you get a real diamond of an event; a stunning location, a truly lovely couple, welcoming families, a great venue host and guests who don’t turn away every time you point the camera at them! Saturday’s wedding was just that, when Lucy and Gareth were married at Dunrobin Castle in Golspie, an hour north of Inverness.
Lucy and Gareth, who run the pharmacy in Dornoch, have been together for a while now – 12 years in fact – but they decided this year was the year to tie the knot. Gareth’s family arrived from Ireland for the intimate ceremony and my day started with them getting ready at the couple’s home. Gareth was keen to have a couple of photographs with Archie the chocolate labrador, one of the couple’s many pets which also include a few chickens, a tabby cat and Jake, the African Grey parrot who was almost as chatty as me!
I left Gareth to it and arrived at Lucy’s parents’ house in the heart of Golspie where the bride was being made up by Kendra of Bliss in Brora. Lucy wore a Jenny Packham dress and looked absolutely stunning – dad Graham was a bit overcome when he saw her and Lucy’s mum Caroline was equally proud.
After a ceremony at Dunrobin, wonderfully hosted by Scott Morrison, the wedding party moved to the Royal Marine hotel in Brora for a delicious meal of goat’s cheese starter, beef, haggis and whisky sauce main and the most delicious chocolate mousse ever (I know that, because they very kindly included me in the wedding meal) before returning to Dunrobin where a huge marquee had been set up at the bottom of the extensive gardens, right by the sea. There were 150 guests helping the couple celebrate, dancing away to The Jacks, who had the party well and truly moving when I left.
Lucy and Gareth are heading off for four days in New York followed by ten days in Greneda so please feel free to leave them a message for their return. I wish them all the very best for their future as husband and wife.

I live where I grew up, in the north-west Highlands of Scotland, near the Isle of Skye. I left home at 18 and returned 18 years later and I've worked as a secretary, a marketing assistant, a PR manager, and a local news reporter.
Although I've always loved looking at pictures in magazines, I didn't really get 'into' photography until I was quite old - 36!! Now, five years on, it is my full time occupation and I DO love it, but that is as much from the folk I get to meet and the fun of being part of a wedding day, as it has to do with having a camera in my hand. I just really, really like meeting new people, especially happy people!
Here's another few snippets of info:
At 34 I had an early midlife crisis and took off on a long trip from London to Kenya via Russia, Mongolia, China, Tibet, Nepal, India and several African countries - it was the best year of my life.
I never gave up on the idea of finding 'the one' and a few weeks ago - aged 41! - I walked down the aisle myself.
The second biggest love of my life is Flora - the funniest, cleverest, cutest little doggy ever!
I've climbed Mt Kilimanjaro and done a Marathon - okay, it was the Moonlight Bra Walk Marathon....but 26.2 miles is 26.2 miles!
I love perfume - especially if the bottle is quirky; my latest purchases were Gucci Flora and Balenciaga.
Coming back to my roots is the best thing I've ever done; Edinburgh and London - good times - but now I can have a dog, grow my own veg, breathe clean air and see the sea, every single day.
I love films, magazines and eating - if I can do all three while camped out on the couch or in the bath, I'm happy!
I am quite a soppy romantic, and I really, really, really love my job.
A massive congratulations to you both.
Thank you for a fantastic evening.
You both looked lovely and very happy.
We hope you had an excellent honey moon and also wish you a long and happy life together.
All the best Gareth and Lucy
